Jerome S. Fox of the Congregation House of Israel in Hot Springs
taught a full fellowship hall of Presbyterians at the Kirk on
April 15. The lesson centered on the Seder plate, a part of the
traditional Jewish Seder dinner.
Rabbi Fox explained the meaning of each item on the Seder plate
including parsley and horseradish representing the bitter herbs,
and the history of unleavened thin sheets of bread, or matzah,
made of flour and water.
Between scripture stories, the Rabbi delivered chants and songs
in Hebrew blessing the Jewish Exodus from Egypt 3,000 years ago.
The congregation read or sung responses from the Jewish Passover
book, “A Passover Haggadah.”
Kirk members and guests then shared a non-kosher, potluck dinner
but without pork and leavened bread as is the Jewish custom. The
program was arranged by the Kirk Education Committee.
