Dr.
Nancy J. Duff Speaks at 2008 Midwinter Lectures
Sally
Fink (pictured right) welcomed Dr. Nancy J. Duff, professor of
Theology and Ethics, Princeton Theological Seminary, as guest
speaker for a two day mid-winter lecture series at the Kirk on
January 23-24. Her topic was The Ten Commandments and Common Life.
Dr. Duff led us to examine such issues as whether the Commandments
should be posted in the public realm, how God's name is used by
American politicians, what kinds of civil law have and should
support Sabbath rest, and how our understanding of faithfulness
in marriage can fulfill the promise of belonging or turn that
promise into a threat. The lectures stimulated many thoughtful
comments and much discussion.
