Roger
and Molly Baldwin were recently welcomed into the
Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines church family and their two
children, Gary and Adele were baptized by
the Reverend Bill Bailey (right) on Dec. 11. The Baldwins
moved from Austin, Texas to be near his parents, Kirk members
Ed and Becky Baldwin. They live on Mountain Pine Rd. where
they own and operate a retail plant nursery, Clear Creek Gardener.

New
Kirk members Rick and Jamie Federick retired
to the Village in 2005 from Texas where they had attended
Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas. After being invited
to the Saturday Informal Service they were drawn to join the
Kirk in June by “the graciousness and acceptance of
the Kirk members as well as both pastors. We have found the
Kirk to be the most caring church we have ever attended,”
they said. The couple enjoys Parish Associate Don Trent’s
Saturday sermons and often attend Sunday services to hear

Ruth
Richards and her husband Jack moved to the Village
three years ago from Missouri after having lived in Houston,
Texas, Bella Vista. Ruth, a native New Yorker, left the state
after the blizzard of 1977 and moved to Houston where there
was no snow. “At least most of the time,” she
said. Jack passed away in 2009. Ruth joined the Kirk in June
after attending the Saturday Informal Service and serves on
the Fellowship Committee. “There’s a special fellowship
here at the Kirk which I totally enjoy,” she said. |

Pastor
Bill Bailey (left) with Diane and Orrin Schmidt
The
Kirk Bell Choir was one of the many aspects influencing
Diane and Orrin Schmidt’s decision to join the Kirk
May 10. They came to Hot Springs Village from Juneau, Wisc.,
in December, 2010. Before their retirement Orrin worked
for John Deere in Horicam, Wisc., for 30 years and Diane
for 22 years. Orrin is also a carpenter and was a part-time
homebuilder. Diane has been a distributor for the Shaklee
Corporation, a wellness and nutrition company, for more
than 20 years. Now they both enjoy gardening and are learning
to play cards.

Jim
and Deanna Kinchloe attend the Kirk’s Saturday

The couple became affiliate members at the Kirk in April.
Jim has 35 years of experience with the printing industry
and 25 years of experience with photography as a hobby. He
also enjoys woodworking. Deanna has 32 years of administrative
and teaching experience. She taught computer software and
desktop publishing on both the secondary and post-secondary
levels. Her hobbies include machine embroidery and decorative
painting. Using skills developed in their 67 combined years
of experience in education and industry, five years ago they
established “Let Freedom Ring,” a virtual tour
service for realtors in the Village and Hot Springs. |

New

welcomed by Pastor Bill Bailey. The couples joined the church
in April.
Ellen
and Jay Wilborn came to Hot Springs Village 13 years ago
from Benton, Ark., to be closer to his work in Hot Springs.
Both were medical technicians before retirement. Jay also
taught at National Park Community College. They attended
First Presbyterian Church in Benton for 30 years where Jay
served as an elder. They both taught Sunday School, Presbyterian
Youth and were camp counselors. Ellen and Jay enjoy the
friendliness of people at the Kirk and of course, Pastor
Bill Bailey. Jay enjoys painting oil portraits, ships and
light houses. Ellen likes pottery and gardening and has
joined the Kirk Greenhorns cooking group. They love living
in the Village and believe it is a well-kept secret or there
would be many more people moving here.
Cynthia
Chaffin became a member of the Kirk while her husband, Jim,
a retired Presbyterian minister, became a member of the
Arkansas Presbytery. Jim served 26 years in the military
before attending seminary. During his 25-year ministry,
the couple lived in Houston, Texas and Jim held pastoral
positions in Kentucky before moving to the Village in .
The native Arkansans said returning to Arkansas was “like
coming home.” They like Pastor Bill Bailey. Jim said
“Bill Bailey is the best pastor I’ve ever heard.”

Gerald
and Lucy Allen moved Hot Springs Village from Sarasota, Fla.,
in November 2010. Lucy, a life-long Presbyterian, is a native
of Pennsylvania but spent most of her adult life in Michigan.
She is a graduate of Westminster College in New Wilmington,
Penn., and taught elementary and pre-school for several years.
Gerald was raised in Arkansas and attended the University
of Arkansas (Fayetteville), graduating with a degree in civil
engineering. He spent most of his career in the water utility
industry. He is also a retired Colonel from the U.S. Army,
having served 23 years combined active duty and reserve component
service. Lucy enjoys reading, walking the beautiful trails
in the Village and playing MahJongg. Gerald’s hobbies
are woodworking and Civil War history. |

Pastor
Bill Bailey welcomes Tom and Priscilla Hayek
as new members of Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines. The Hayeks
moved to the Village from Naperville, Ill. Tom retired after
34 years teaching high school Spanish and as a swim coach.
Priscilla was happy to retire from a waste-management company
and to move nearer her mother, Villager Shirley Johnson.
