About Presbyterian Kirk In The Pines

Lon Hardin - Worship Committee Moderator
Lon has served as a deacon and elder four times in churches in Arkansas and in Arlington, Va. He became certified as a Commissioned Lay Pastor in the mid 90’s and has served as a pulpit supply in various churches in Arkansas and as Interim Pastor at McGehee, Ark.

He and his wife, Liz, became members of the Kirk in 2008. Both were raised Southern Baptists, but became Presbyterians in 1969. Lon spent his career in the fields of Economic Development and promotion of International Trade at local, state and national levels.

He also taught international marketing, finance and economic courses as an adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock.

During this career Lon and Liz lived in Texas, Illinois, West Virginia and Virginia before returning to Arkansas where they lived on a farm as he commuted to Little Rock to work.
Lon currently serves on the Presbytery of Arkansas General Council and is an active leader in the Kirk.

Worship
The Worship Committee, in partnership with our pastors, plans our regular Saturday evening informal service and Sunday services, as well as special services of worship for Advent, Christmas, Tenebrae, Easter, World Communion, All Saints Day and Veteran’s Day. A Service of Wholeness, with laying on of hands for healing, is held periodically.

The Worship committee strives to make all of the worship experiences at the Kirk meaningful and rewarding, and that includes handling a myriad of details – music, flowers, candles, banners, communion elements and servers, liturgists, ushers and greeters.

This busy committee also appoints a coordinator to work with the pastors and bereaved families in planning a loved one’s memorial service.
