Mike
Carpenter - Planning
and Coordinating
Mike Carpenter grew up in Guthrie, Okla. After high school he
joined the U.S. Navy for four years, serving in aviation electronics
aboard a sea-plane tender patrolling the China coast. Following
his tour of duty, he enrolled at Oklahoma State University in
Stillwater, where he met and married his wife, Bev.
Mike
graduated in electrical engineering which led to a job with
Motorola in Phoenix, Ariz., for ten years. While in Phoenix
he attended Arizona State University, changed his major, and
earned a Ph.D. in finance. The family moved to Lexington, where
he taught at the University of Kentucky until retirement.
Mike
grew up as a Methodist. When he and Bev first came to the Village,
they attended Mountainside United Methodist Church where he
served on the Outreach Committee. They became interested in
the Kirk’s education program and transferred to the Kirk
in 2006, about the same time Pastor Bill Bailey arrived. The
couple attends Bill’s Bible class as well as his class
in Christian Faith.
Mike
and Bev have been married 43 years and have two sons, both living
in Oceanside, California.
Planning
and Coordinating
Change doesn't just happen. It's a process of looking to the future,
making plans, and setting those plans in motion. At the Kirk,
that's done by the Planning and Coordinating Committee. This group
of forward-looking folks also coordinates inter-committee relations
and looks at committee function, an interesting and diverse responsibility. |
