Gail
Salmen —Memorial Committee Moderator
While living on a dairy farm in Long Grove, Ill., Gail attended
her first eight years of school as one of six girls in a class
with 18 boys. She graduated Ela-Vernon High School in Lake Zurich,
Ill. and became employed by Jewel Tea Company where she worked
10 years, rising to service manager.
After Gail and David Salmen were married she served as supervisor
of Zurich Insurance Company’s collections, audit and procedures
departments. Prior to retirement, she worked in the specialties
division dealing with malpractice; kidnap protection and other
high-end liability insurance.
She enjoyed serving as usher for nine years at her UCC Congregational
Church in Illinois, finding it fun to greet new people as they
came in the door for the first time.
While David attends Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Gail
found the Kirk to be friendly and became a member shortly after
they moved to the Village in 2001.
Gail is active in HSV Breakfast Lions Ladies’ Auxiliary
and both Salmens assist with Meals on Wheels and Knights of
Columbus activities.
She has been a member of the Kirk Memorial Committee several
years and as elder she will serve as moderator.
