Ruth
Hamilton -
Fellowship Committee
Ruth Hamilton is a Yankee, having been born in New York City,
but she considers herself a Southerner at heart. She says it
was her years in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana that did it—that,
and living over 40 years with her Okie husband. Dave. She was
raised Presbyterian but has been a member of other denominations
as her husband’s career took them to different locations.
It was when she and her Dave, moved to Houston, Texas in 1987,
that they arrived back home in the Presbyterian Church.
In her early life, Ruth was a chemist for the U.S. Department
of Agriculture, and later, as her three boys were growing up,
she worked as a public school teacher. Her last career was as
Director of Children’s Ministry in a Presbyterian mega
church in Houston. During that time she had the opportunity
to take classes for Christian Educator Certification at Austin
Theological Seminary.
She and Dave have been members of the Kirk for seven years.
During that time she has served on the Education Committee and
Mission Committee, has been co-Moderator of the Pastor Nominating
Committee and Moderator of the Evangelism Committee. At the
Presbytery level she is on the Committee on Preparation for
Ministry. She and her husband have been instrumental in helping
to start a Presbyterian Cursillo renewal program here in Arkansas.
Fellowship
The Fellowship Committee can be considered the hosts and hostesses
of the Kirk. It provides a variety of opportunities for our
busy congregation to come together for fellowship and fun. It
is through these gatherings that our closeness as a church family
grows and our shared faith is strengthened. Dinner for Six or
Eight, Couples Bridge, the annual Golf Mixer and the Kirk Thanksgiving
Dinner are some of the many ways we enjoy each other's company
as well as form lasting friendships. Our lives are entwined
in loving relationships, united by Christ, our Lord, and empowered
to be a community of support for one another, as well as an
instrument for God in the world.
