About Presbyterian Kirk In The Pines

Ruth Hamilton - Evangelism Committee Moderator
Ruth Hamilton was raised as a Presbyterian but, due to many moves, has also been a member of other denominations. When she and her husband Dave moved to Houston, TX, they arrived back home in the Presbyterian Church.

Ruth was a chemist for the US Department of Agriculture and later worked as a public school teacher. Her last career was as Director of Children’s Ministry in a Presbyterian mega church in Houston. During this time she had the opportunity to take classes for Christian Educator Certification at Austin Theological Seminary.

She and Dave have been members of the Kirk for six years. She is active in the Presbyterian Cursillo renewal program, and at the Kirk she has served on the Education Committee, Mission Committee, and the Pastor Nominating Committee. At the Presbytery level she is on the Committee on Preparation for Ministry.

Evangelism
The South is known for its hospitality, and no one does Southern hospitality better than the Kirk’s Evangelism Committee. Everyone here was a stranger at one time—and we know that visiting a new church for the first time can be a daunting experience. It is our goal to help people feel welcome and at home, even on their first visit. Visitors to the Kirk are greeted warmly as they enter, asked to fill out a name tag, and invited to share fellowship in Hoffius Hall at the coffee hour following each service.

The Evangelism Committee supports an informal worship service on Saturday afternoon in Hoffius Hall for those who prefer a less formal atmosphere and enjoy upbeat music and praise songs. We also sponsor the Gardening…From Alpha to Omega workshops that meet monthly on the fourth Thursday. The workshops are open to everyone in the community who is interested in gardening.

We strive to provide opportunities for all members to be included in the full life of the congregation. In a nutshell, we joyfully share the good news of the sovereign love of God and encourage active membership in the church and obedient service in the world.
